HAIR SESSIONS

What are they? And why are they only needed in some scenarios?
Sometimes when you show or tell your stylist your hair goals we mention you may need sessions. Why do we sometimes require sessions? Hair can only handle so much before damage is caused. Sometimes the goal you want may be a big change and we don't think your hair can handle it one day. Everyone's hair is different also. What i may be able to do in one day on one clients hair may not be possible on the next client. Your hair history also affects how much your hair can handle. Removing old colors and/or build up sometimes can be harder on hair and we may not be able to do it all in one sitting. Hair health, history, and goals are always discussed in my consults for this reason. I am never recommending sessions just to get more money out of you. I only recommend sessions when I feel it's necessary for the hair health. Sometimes in the first session of a color correction or a big transformation I am not even able to use lightener on the hair if it has too much damage. It may just involve clarifying or color removing and toning then just a good treatment to get the hair ready for another session. Sometimes i can lighten the hair in the first session but just not all the way to where I need to the hair to be at to achieve the hair goal.
This client has been a great example to show sessions! My client has been having red put in her hair for around 3 years. She recently wanted to start the process of going blonde while keeping her hair as heathy and long as possible.
First session; We started with a Malibu color remover to help remove some of those layers of red color. I then went in with a lightener mixed with a low level developer so i could slowly and gently remove some more of the red. Once i felt the hair lifted as much as it could without damaged we rinsed and toned. Olaplex was also mixed into every color step to help protect the hair. Then we followed up with an olaplex treatment to help repair and trimmed her hair as well.
Second session; I didn't need to color remove again so this time I started with my lightener mixed with olaplex and a gentle developer. After letting the lightener sit for 30min i rinsed then did a lightener soap cap on the mids to ends so I could get a little more lift but still be gentle. We then toned the hair and did another olaplex treatment (olaplex was in every color step again) to finish this appointment.
The client and I both have been so happy with these results and can't wait to see how light she gets in the next session. Remember everyone's hair is different. Different goals require different processes and techniques. Not everyone's hair lifts or takes color the same so no two hair appointments will always look the same. Another thing that can help you achieve your goals and keep the hair healthy though is using professional products at home between appointments and using a hair mask once or twice a week.
