New Year. New Goals.

It's a pretty common topic after new years's, your "resolutions". By definition a resolution is "a firm decision to do or not to do something". I personally don't like to have resolutions for this reason. I don't want a list of things I need to do or not do. I like to have goals. Things I can strive and work for. Sometimes I may not reach all my goals, but I'm ok with that. I always try to have some goals I should be able to achieve and some that I may not achieve in a year. Having difficult goals helps me stay motivated. I usually set both personal and professional goals. I feel constantly having some goals helps me push to continue improving and being the best me possible.

I have a few personal goals this year. Last summer I started a new goal go getting healthier and to lose weight. I made some diet changes as well as started exercising more. One goal this year is continue to exercise 4-5 times per week and lose more weight. My goal isn't just about losing weight though, I want to get stronger, in better shape, and just overall feel better. Another personal goal is to have more confidence in myself. Not just in my appearance, but in how I present myself. I want to doubt myself less and not always second guess my choices/decisions as much. I want to be able to have the confidence to stand up for myself when necessary. I feel that by gaining confidence I can help improve my anxiety in my day to day life. I have a couple other more personal goals for myself, but I felt these two are ones many people can relate to in day to day life.

I also have a few professional goals this year. One goal is I definitely want to improve my social media and reach a larger audience. I sometimes wish I didn't need social media so much for my career, but it is a huge part of it this day and age. I want to be better and more consistent with my business pages so that I can reach more followers and other people in the beauty industry. I am also entering some of my work into hair competitions. I have never felt I did good enough work for this before. But since I also want to be more confident in a professional aspect, this is a good start. It can also help me grow my social media presence. I honestly don't have a goal for how far I want to get in the competition. I feel just having the confidence to do several entries is exciting and it will be fun to try and see how I do. I also have another bigger professional goal this year as well that is a personal one for me to try and achieve at my salon.

Having goals helps me stay motivated and push myself. It is ok if sometimes I don't reach a goal. I don't necessarily consider it a failure when that happens. I just remind myself to keep trying and that eventually I can get to where I want to be. I can keep pushing myself to improve in many aspects of my life. Do you set goals or resolutions for the new year? How do you like to keep yourself motivated to continue to improve?
