It is summer time! I know I have been out enjoying sunshine and warm weather as I'm sure many of you also are. However with the extra heat, sunshine, and water exposure it is important we are still taking care of our hair. Summer can often be drying and damaging for hair as we are in the UV rays and chemicals in water. Here are some tips to help protect your hair!

Use a leave-in spray on your hair with UV protection! Most multi use sprays have both heat and UV protection. Which is perfect for your hair! The UV protection will help keep the sun from drying your hair out and/or fading color too quickly. Follow the spray with an oil or serum to help seal in some moisture and protection for your hair. The oil/serum will also help with frizz more which is usually more common in summer.

Ditch the hot tools and tight ponytails! Using braids or heatless curls to give your hair some texture will also be more protective and healthy for your hair than using a hot tool on it. If you do use a hot tool make sure you are using a heat protectant and try to turn the heat down a little. Also avoid putting your hair up in tight pony tails. I put my hair up a lot in the summer! But using clips, scrunchies, or invisibobbies allows your hair to be up but in a less tight and damaging style. You can always get a cute hat too! Still use your spray and oil/serum before putting it up as well.

Try to avoid washing daily as usual still, however if your hair is in chlorine or any type of water even a lake wash your hair as soon as you are done! Make sure your shampoo and conditioner are hydrating enough. If needed too it is also good to use a hydrating mask every week or two for extra hydration, repair, and protection. It is also best to avoid getting your hair in Chlorine or any water constantly. If you are able, try putting on a leave in spray or light conditioner on your hair then put it up so it can stay out of the water. Repeatedly having your hair in the water or chlorine will dry it out and can also fade or change your hair color. If it does get in the water or even if you leave it out of the water it is best to wash and condition as soon as you can to help protect the hair.

Taking just these few extra steps in the summer can help ensure your hair stays as healthy and bright as possible! Enjoy the sunshine!
